The original painting was created with Chinese ink and pigments, wax and oil on a wood panel and took over 20 hours to finish. The peony flowers and the birds of heaven were created in the traditional Chinese method with ink and a thin brush, then sealed with wax. Later, the piano was painted in oil on top, which brought out the three-dimensional effect. The painting is a celebration of a peaceful moment caught in time with a sense of melancholy.
We are proud of the fact that it has won the major prize of NHS Leicestershire Trust - The Yellow Book Project- to help support mental wellbeing.
